Bridgegate, Hebden Bridge

Rands is a small, friendly, family-run language school in Hebden Bridge. The town is in the beautiful Calderdale countryside of West Yorkshire. Rands provides English language tuition for groups and individuals and provides English courses and hourly lessons. Rands teaching prepares students to communicate better in English. Lessons include reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. The director is Sasha Goldsmith. She is an experienced teacher and holds the CELTA qualification.

Student Induction

As a new student, you will take part in induction sessions and activities organised by Rands.  Induction involves a range of activities designed to welcome you and to help you understand the various support services available to you. This helps orientate you to Rands and your programme.   

As an international student, an induction welcome event is arranged for you at the beginning of each term. You will also be provided with some useful contacts. It is also a good opportunity to meet other new students and the Director, Sasha Goldsmith. The event consists of a welcome from the Director followed by a practical induction to Rands and to the area. During the afternoon students will be able to obtain further information about student services and obtain information for students coming from outside the UK. The website gives information for students before they leave home, on arrival in the UK and also gives details about living in the area. 

Students will be given a comprehensive reference document of how Rands operates and what support and facilities are available to students. This guide is provided to each student in their enrolment pack.

Your induction programme includes:

• A welcome and introduction by Sasha.
• Induction with information about the School, the timetable.
• Study Support, Student Support and the Student Social Society.
• Information about the library and local Information Services and how to book onto tours where applicable.
• Registration.

Certificates, Awards and Prize-giving

At the end of each term, certificates, awards and prizes are given to students who have worked hard. There is an award ceremony and party. This is a great opportunity to thank your tutor and to meet with your fellow students to celebrate your achievements and take souvenir photographs.

The following Rands Awards are available for students to compete for:

The Crown Award to the most improved student.

The Saint George Award to the most committed student.

The Albert Award to the most helpful student.

Rands Student Social Society

Rands students are encouraged to meet together socially. There are a number of Student Social Society (SSS) activities that begin that process for students, such as the Rands Cinema Club and Rands Book Club.

Student work

At Rands, we like to keep the very best work of our students’ work. You will be encouraged to produce copies of your work for presentation purposes.

Feedback

We want you to really enjoy your course. The Director asks you to provide feedback on your experience of studying at Rands. This information is used to make sure that we understand exactly what you need and want. If necessary, we can make changes to the way we do things.
